Falls are the leading cause of unintentional injury in Australians 65 years and over. Falls prevention aims to break this cycle with both exercise and education to help minimise this risk. You may be suitable for a Falls Prevention/Balance Rehabilitation program if you have a history of a fall or have issues with your balance. We offer specialised programs to help you regain your independence and resume day to day activities.

Our Falls Management Program is a dedicated initiative designed to empower and support individuals who have experienced falls or are at risk. We understand the challenges that falls pose to your overall well-being, and our multidisciplinary team is here to guide you through a personalised journey towards improved mobility and safety.

Who can benefit from this program?

The primary purpose of our Falls Management Program is to assist individuals aged 65 and above who have recently experienced a fall within the last 12 months, possess a history of falls or are at a heightened risk due to reduced functional capacity. Our comprehensive program is designed to identify the root causes of your falls and tailor a personalized treatment plan that suits your individual requirements.

We can help to:

  • Reduce Fall Risk: Our program aims to minimise the risk of future falls by addressing contributing factors such as muscle weakness, balance issues and environmental hazards.
  • Improve Functional Capacity: Through targeted exercises and interventions, we strive to enhance your strength, flexibility, and overall functional capacity.
  • Boost Confidence: Regain your confidence and independence with our supportive team, empowering you to navigate your daily activities with greater assurance.
How To access

Ask your GP, specialist or hospital (if you are an inpatient) for a referral to our program. Once we receive your referral, our team will promptly contact you to confirm any out-of-pocket costs and schedule your program start date.

Day Rehabilitation

Our day programs are designed for those living independently at home and seeking to improve their strength without the need for inpatient medical support. You can access our day programs either after an inpatient rehab admission or as required from the community.

Our day programs focus on improving your ability to complete activities of daily living and enhancing your overall quality of life. They typically involve 2-3 sessions per week, with each session involving 1-3 hours of exercise therapy based on your needs and goals.

Our day programs are suitable for those who:

  • Have completed an inpatient rehab stay and require ongoing rehabilitation support as they transition back home/into the community
  • Are focused on improving their fitness and mobility following an accident, injury or surgery
  • Would benefit from the support and expertise of our allied health team in managing a chronic illness

Whether you choose to attend inpatient rehab or a day program, you will be cared for by our dedicated team, which may include:

  • Rehab Physicians
  • Registered Nurses
  • Physiotherapists
  • Exercise Physiologists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Social Workers

Inpatient Rehabilitation

Inpatient rehabilitation is suitable for individuals who require medical coverage and nursing care, and involves a full time stay at our hospital. As an inpatient, you are provided with a structured environment that helps you to focus on your recovery with regular mealtimes, bedtimes and daily exercise sessions with allied health professionals. This also ensures that you are closely monitored and changes in your condition are addressed immediately.

We provide medical inpatient services to patients who:

  • Are unable to cope at home or have no one to care for them after hospitalisation, after a bout of illness, a fall or fracture or those unsteady on their feet
  • Are suffering a chronic illness and are in need of acute hospital care
  • Are in need of continuing IV antibiotics or wound care such as VAC dressings
  • Are not ready for rehabilitation, for example, those who are non-weight bearing or slow to heal

The length of your stay will be dependent on your progress and your specific needs as assessed fortnightly by our rehabilitation physicians and allied health professionals.
